Oh Yeah? Well Your Ancestor's a Neanderthal! No, Really.

Homo_sapiens_neanderthalensisWell, we knew that humans found Neanderthals good eatin’, but it seems they also enjoyed sex with them too. According to a new study, most people can trace some of their DNA to Neanderthals. In fact, we could be up to 4% Neanderthal. According to Max Planck Institute evolutionary geneticist Svante Pääbo, "'The Neanderthals are not totally extinct. In some of us they live on a little bit.” It took four years for Pääbo’s team to assemble a working sequence from DNA in the bones of three 38,000-year-old Neanderthal women, found in Croatia’s Vindija Cave. The sequence, published May 6 in Science, covers about 60 percent of the entire genome.

Why Did the Neanderthals Cross The Road?

Answer: Because our human ancestors thought they were tasty! Even though it technically wasn't cannibalism (it would have to be the same species) it's still rather gross and of course the genocide of a sentient species for food and trophies by our early Homo-Sapien ancestors. Sometimes, history is just weird.
